CHARACTERS OF THE BIBLE
OBSCURE
With over 66 books of Scripture covering thousands of years of history, the Bible mentions hundreds of people in great detail (heroes Abraham, David, Paul, for example) and gives others just a passing mention. This Section of Hope Likes will shares the stories of some of the more obscure Bible characters.
Zelophehad's Daughters

(Hebrew: בְּנוֹת צְלָפְחָד, romanized: Bənōṯ Ṣəlāfəḥāḏ) were five sisters – Mahlah (Hebrew: מַחְלָה Maḥlā), Noa (נֹעָה Nōʿā), Hoglah (חָגְלָה Ḥoglā), Milcah (מִלְכָּה Mīlkā), and Tirzah (תִרְצָה Tīrṣā)
The daughters of Zelophehad—Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah—were five sisters from the tribe of Manasseh who sought justice after their father died without sons. Under Israel’s laws, only men could inherit land, but the sisters petitioned.
Moses to receive their father’s inheritance so his name would not disappear. God approved their request, setting a new law that daughters could inherit if there were no sons. Later, they were instructed to marry within their tribe to keep the land in Manasseh. Their story highlights faith, courage, and fairness in biblical law.
